The latest dispute between Al Vogler and Thurston Smith has to do with Smitty's ties to the Chamber of Commerce and the use of Hesperia tax dollars going to the Chamber. Both Smith and Leonard stated at the 10-5-10 City Council meeting that the information in the Hesperia Free Press was wrong and that the increase in tax dollars to the Chamber was before Smith was on the Council. A search of City council meeting agendas revealed that Smith was on the Council and voted for the increase from $30,000.00 a year to the $60,000.00 a year of tax dollars to the Chamber from the City. In contrast, this years budget for roads in Hesperia is 0. Thats right, zero, zip, nada for roads but $60,000 of tax dollars goes to the Chamber of Commerce. What does the public get back from the Chamber? Good question, Ask Thurston Smith.
