It seems that we need some sort of an orginization to represent the taxpayers and property owners in Hesperia as a group with common goals and objectives. The City Council race was fun but I think we can be more effective as a group getting the City Council to work for us. I don't have any objections to City Council members being members and participating in a public forum for change. What do you think?

Great Idea ! Any ideas on how to get started ? We should maintain the momentum on the Council. As you are all aware of, past Council members have a habit of "turning inward" shall we say ? Let's make sure it doesn't happen again.

I like this idea also. We really need a group that puts forth citizen issues and provides an oversight (watchdog)service on the city council. In my mind this group should remain independent and non partisan. It could even publish a bi-annual report card on how the city council is doing. I would like to be involved.

Good breakdown on the city's proposed budget. It would be nice to reverse those figures. Put the $47,126,828 towards the city services/public works and the $18,048,494 towards economic development. To me even the $18,048,494 is to much to be spending at this time on development. Paul do you have any figures on the cost and time to bring even 65% of the roads in town up to par? And perhaps the cost to add the additional police officers and firemen?
Thanks

A relative of mine ( an in law) works @ED for the city of Hesperia. She makes around 70K. So far, she has brought in a total of about 6 jobs. And they were all the new "houskeepers" at the new La Quinta. Big salary=No results. CUT Economic Developement. More pavement-LESS buildings !

The whole idea behind the Economic Development program is to bring in new business's who will then bring in jobs and sales tax to the city. The Hesperia version is just a giveaway of taxdollars with no return to the city. No business's- no jobs- no sales tax. The Redevelopment agency is the same deal, take the money that is supposed to eliminate "Blight" and give it to business owners instead. No accountability or return on the money that the "Boys " have given to their buddies.
As far as how much money it will take to pave x amount of roads- I look at it in a different way. Lets do as much as we can with every revenue source available. Lets fund public services first before anything else and make every effort towards public programs that are needed. As soon as the first City Council meetings are scheduled for next year-January?- we should make an effort to get as many citizens as possible to show up and speak at them. Let's start this term off right, and let the City Council know what we expect to happen this next 2 years.

It's Monday the 11th of December, I went to the new library today and we have a huge communtity meeting room that's free of charge and available. I think January would be a good time for an initial get together for a Hesperia property owners/ taxpayers / citizens group. Week nights the library is open till 8 and is open on both Saturday and Sunday but not that late. The room can be reserved through the City Clerks office. Log on and let me know what will be the easiest for everyone. I'm guessing maybe a Saturday or Sunday afternoon?

Saturday or Sunday afternoon works for me. Should we advertise this ? I'd be willing to spring for an ad in the Daily Press. Just let me know time and place and give me a couple days lead time. Cell# 684-2148

I talked to the City Clerk yesterday, she got my application for the City committee's by fax and my request to use the new "Community Meeting" room at the library. I told her the reason that I wanted to use the room, and she said that the city was still developing a policy on the use of the "Community Meeting " room and that a meeting of Hesperia property owners was "political" and we may not be able to use the room to meet in. We had a discussion about the citizens paying for the new library but then the use of the meeting rooms inside of it are restricted? Anyway it wasn't a no, but it will become an issue if the residents or citizens or property owners of Hesperia are not permitted to assemble in a public building that they have paid for. Stay tuned for an update when I get it. If you haven't been to the new library- you should go- you are paying for it.

Hmmm! Not supposed to use a community facility to discuss community issues. Sounds to me as if the city bureaucrats want to continue the policy of discouragement. Make everything as difficult to use or access as possible. Especially deter those that want to voice an opinion on city governmental issues. This must be a SOP that is adopted by all who become involved with government. Anyone else concerned about the use of so called free speech zones?

Saturdays for a meeting is good with me.

I have a meeting with the City Manager this morning on the Santa Fe East project but I will ask about the "Communitee Meeting "room at the library. I'm looking at January 13th, its a Saturday. If I don't get an official OK to use the meeting room we should meet in the middle of the Library to discuss our issue. Think we can get thrown out of our library? I'm in! I'll let you know how it goes this morning.

I'll be there on the 13th (as long as it's after 10:00AM-work). I'd sure like to know what's going on. My street (Tangerine) WAS on the 06/07 list, now it's dis-appeared and I can't get any straight answers from Streets or Engineering. First they told us September 06, then Feb. 06, now they don't know. Rita Vogler does'nt return messages. More of the same perhaps ?? Would'nt be so bad if they had not DESTROYED our street last summer putting in new water/gas lines. Now it's an unsafe dustbowl. And the band plays on....

The meeting I had with the City Manager was good but still no policy on how members of the community could use the "Community Meeting Room" in the library. So I reserved the back room at Shelly's Place on Orange Street for 1:00 PM on Saturday January 13th. Bring yourself and your family if you like and have lunch and we can exchange ideas and phone numbers to see if there is enough interest in a Property Owners association. The back room holds 14 but if more show up we can move it out into the bigger dinning rooms.

The comparison between Apple Valley's and Hesperia's budgets was excellent. There is something definitely wrong in the city of Hesperia. Three times the money as Apple Valley and still the poorest roads of any high desert community. I remember the hogwash about limits on asphalt production/temperature that was posted here by some of Lindley's supporters. It appears Apple Valley didn't seem to be bothered by such constraints. 90% of AV roads were paved, while we only had 20% in the same period. I will try and be there on the 13th

The Hesperia Property Owners meeting was a huge success. I was really glad to see so many people. If every person that was at todays meeting gets 2 or 3 neighbors to join, we are going to need a bigger place to meet. I think the room at Shelly's only holds 50.

I have reserved Pasco's Pizza back room for the next meeting on Wednesday the 31st at 7:00 pm. I am going to do a video presentation to go along with the handouts on both the Property tax ripoff history and where we are at now. I have some good stuff that I got from the County last Monday. It shows the actual breakdown of money out and money back in between the County and Apple Valley and Hesperia for the last 2 years. I am going to post it and create PDF downloads for your use. Spread the word about the meeting at Pasco's and I'll see you there.

We probably won't get to use the community meeting room at the library for a few months due to the new City legal council approving a policy for the room. I have some good handouts from the Alliance for Water Awareness and Conservation- AWAC. For more info visit their site at www.hdawac.org. I will try and book Pasco's again for a meeting in the near future. Log in with topics for discussion and I will try to put them together as an agenda. There is actually alot going on that doesn't get in the papers and I will share my perspective at the meeting. The Ranchero underpass, the Summit Valley Road $15 million dollar project, Santa Fe East, water in the High Desert, the housing/sub-prime mortgage meltdown, and on and on.
