A guest article by Free Press on local politics and the money funding it,
EIGER Hypothesis written by the Free Press with notes from the Lindsay and Rolle sanctions and attenuated with Inland Empire redux, ad nauseam.
As so many of you have been reading during the prior two weeks, several politicians have been connected to, and suspected of, receiving financial contributions for their political campaigns from the Colonies developers.
Recently, charges have been filed against Bill Postmus and Jim Erwin
who are believed to be direct recipients of Colonies money.
The Colonies received $102,000,000 of taxpayer money from the settlement of a lawsuit with San Bernardino County. County supervisors Ovitt, Biane and Postmus voted to award the money in what is suspected to be an illegal negotiation and settlement. The supervisor’s chiefs and staff, including Brad Mitzelfelt, Mark Kirk and Anthony Riley, were aware of the decision to award the moneys, but as far as we can tell, the three never went to the public to declare that a possibly illegal transaction was about to occur.
Shortly after the award of the $102,000,000.00, money was deposited into several political action committees (PAC’s) from the Colonies. One such pack was named the Inland Empire PAC.
During the year 2007-2008, the Inland Empire PAC received $93,455.41 from the Colonies.
Other contributors included the Committee to Elect Bill Postmus, $16,500, Committee to Elect Brad Mitzelfelt (San Bernardino County Supervisor), $5,000, Dino DeFazio (indicted developer) and Artisan Home Builders $5,000, Oak Valley Management $55,000- Michael Gallagher, Key West Engineering (believed to be former Hesperia mayor Bill Jensen) $6,000, Jeff Bentow $4,000, Friends of Rex Gutierrez (the indicted Rancho Cucamonga city council member) $3,000, IVK, Inc. $5,000, Bella Rosa at Hesperia, LLC $25,000 and Bill Postmus (indicted, former member of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, and former county assessor), $4,500.
As you can see, the contributors to the Inland Empire PAC may have similar motivations. Their cluster philosophy is politics, real estate and home development, and money.
The candidates and committees to whom the Inland empire PAC made contributions include:
Committee to Elect Brad Mitzelfelt, $82,500.
Committee to Elect Bill Postmus, $50,000.
Paul Biane For Supervisor, $12,000.
Committee To Elect Jim Nehmens, $10,000.
Friends of Russ Blewett, $13,500.
Do you recognize any of these names? Quite a group to all be associated with each other and each other’s money, including the Colonies.
The Eiger hypothysis is a supposition that all of the above PAC money recipients are destined to political self destruction. Each of them, possessing close personal knowledge of the others, cannot help but be drawn into the Postmus/Erwin affair. And, remember, Mitzelfelt has emphatically stated that he has never known of Bill Postmus, his close friend and former boss, to have done anything wrong!
Enter the Chris Lindsay sanction. Chris Lindsay, a former Hesperia Unified School District board candidate, is also implicated with the Inland Empire PAC and the monies of the Colonies and Bill Postmus, Bill Jensen,
Brad Mitzelfelt and Dino DeFazio. Ironically, Lindsay lost to another Colonies backed candidate Anthony Riley by 160 votes in the 2008 election. None the less, Lindsay took Colonies money through IE Pac.
Mr. Lindsay accepted $5,000 from the Inland Empire PAC, which was recorded only five days before the election in November, 2008. Others given “late money” by the PAC were Mark Kirk, $2,000, five days before the election.
Other recipient’s of money late in October were Apple Valley Town Council members, Rick Roelle and Ginger Coleman. Mr. Roelle accepted $5,000 and Ms. Coleman got $4,500.00 from the same PAC, and thus shares money with the Colonies and Postmus et. al.
There exists a sanction of sorts between Mr. Lindsay and Mr. Roelle in that they both approve of the wild expenditures of money by the Mojave Water Agency. Both have stated in public that they approve of the R3 project of the MWA. Even though the project will confiscate the highest quality water in the Victor Valley, almost entirely for the use of Victorville, the myopia will result in diminishing water quality and water quantity on the desert.
I am sure that both Lindsay and Roelle know that the Mojave Water Agency has spent almost $100,000,000. in the last few years and has received nothing more in return than the hope that they will be able to purchase water for the valley in the future. That’s correct! The $100,000,000. did not buy one drop of wet water.
One can only wonder, if either Mr.Lindsay or Mr. Roelle runs for political office in the future, and wins, what sort of debt burden they will create for their communities?
It has been a revelation to review the paperwork of the Inland Empire PAC and observe the degree to which money influences politics. Below is a partial list of familiar names who took money from the Inland Empire PAC. You are all invited to the Registrar of Voters Office in San Bernardino to review the same paperwork and much more similar to it. Freedom is not free, it requires the investment of time and energy. Good day!
